Climbing Mt. Longonot.
Well we can say this one is off our bucket list..!
The Excursion started off at 7.00 A.M. in Nairobi, destination Mt. Longonot which is about 60KM from Nairobi. We are in a group travel, of about 40 persons. Mostly strangers with the same agenda. Adventure – hike.
We take the Nairobi-Nakuru Road and branch off at Limuru to Mai Mahiu. enroute to Longonot.
As you head toward Naivasha from Mai Mahiu, There is a dirt road leading off to the Mount Longonot National Park.
The name Longonot is name is from the Maasai word Oloonong’ot, meaning “mountains of many spurs” or “steep ridges“.
Mount Longonot is protected by Kenya Wildlife Service as part of Mount Longonot National Park. It has an elevation of 2780m at the peak.
Mount Longonot is a strato-volcano located southeast of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley of Kenya, Africa.
At the start of the hike its all fun, cracking jokes, taking pictures etc – Before serious business sets in. And the group starts becoming loosely attached, The fit ones ahead and the winded ones taking frequent rest now and again.
Finally after what seemed a long while, we arrive at the lower rim. – which to some that is the end of their climb. –
We Did not see any wild animals on this hike, but there are written signs warming of wild animals and sometimes you come across wildlife tracks and foot prints.
At the end its a good bucket list activity that a family can enjoy.
